Padre Pio Prayer Group
Padre Pio
Padre PioPadre Pio was born on 25 May 1887,baptised Francesco and known to the family as "Franci". He decided to become a priest at the age of nine after hearing an inspiring sermon in church. About a year later he met Brother Camillus, a Capuchin monk, and, admiring the Brother's thick black beard, decided then and there that he wanted to be a Capuchin monk! He made his final profession on 27 January 1907.

In 1950 Padre Pio launched an official appeal, asking his "spiritual children" to come together in groups and pray. He lay out simple guidelines, "meet at least once a month with no other purpose but to pray together and invite others to pray." Today there are thousands of "Padre Pio Prayer Groups" around the world.

Padre Pio was blessed by God in many ways, including bearing the wounds of Christ's crucifixion, the stigmata. He was also known for his gift of bilocation, prophecy and miraculous cures. Most important of all, Padre Pio is a powerful intercessor so much loved by members of his faithful prayer groups.

Padre Pio died on 23 September 1968 and was canonized by Pope John Paul II on 16 June 2002. "St Pio of Pietrelcina pray for us."
